The renovation and extension of this grand 1800s home blends traditional methods and materials with modern practicality.

Having added a second storey to this property for the previous owners in the 1990s, Addstyle felt a personal connection with this project, making it a privilege to be involved once again.
In addition, this home is an important part of Perth's history, having been built in the late 1800s for a former governor.
The brief for this project centred on the clients' two children, who had reached driving age, requiring additional parking space. They also wanted a dedicated gym room, and to renovate the kitchen and update the wet areas on the ground floor.
Addstyle remodelled the existing garage and also added a second, freestanding garage to the front of the home. At the rear, a separate gym was designed and built in the Federation-style of the home.
The existing laundry, bathroom and powder room was demolished and rebuilt, retaining original features such as the leadlight windows. The period mouldings and fretwork were also replicated.
The kitchen was also renovated in a design that, while contemporary, takes its inspiration from the 19th century style of the home, with features such as timber frieze block framing, recessed display cabinet, ceiling rose and period light switches.
Externally, new areas of the front facade were tuck-pointed, new windows were matched to the originals and double-hung, Dutch gables were replicated, and many items were retained, such as the roof's bargeboard and scribe.
The level of attention to detail in this home is rarely seen in modern construction, and Addstyle was pleased the clients allowed it to apply this to the new areas, paying homage to the home's architectural heritage.
The success of this project can largely be attributed to the unstinting time and effort that was spent on the design and construction detail, and a wonderful working relationship between Addstyle and the clients.
