Pop-Up Globe hits Perth

Pop-up Globe, the world’s first full-scale temporary working replica of Shakespeare’s theatre, is finally coming to Perth.

After performing to 650,000 people in just three years, Pop-up Globe will pop up at Crown Perth from 5 October 2019 to present an epic festival of Shakespeare unlike anything Perth has ever seen.

Experience four of Shakespeare’s most spectacular masterworks – Hamlet, A Midsummer Nights’ Dream, Measure for Measure, and Twelfth Night – complete with stunning costumes, elaborate sets, special effects, and litres of blood.

Here's a couple of reasons why you'll want to be part of the audience.

Opening week tickets are $10, which means everyone can experience Shakespeare
To celebrate the arrival of one of the greatest theatres in history, the team behind Pop-up Globe are offering $10 tickets to all preview shows for performances from 5 October until 13 October. These $10 tickets are strictly limited and are for selected lower gallery seats and groundlings tickets.

For the remainder of the season, general tickets start from $29 and go up to $250 for the full VIP treatment. However, the inexpensive ones might just offer the best experience - the ‘groundlings’ tickets get you access to the standing room in front of the stage. It’s kind of like a Shakespearian mosh pit - think moving monologues delivered to theatre goers standing only metres away, fights spilling out from the stage, and characters popping up at the back and making their way through the crowd to the stage.

Those after the royal experience (literally: this is where the royal family would have sat in the original theatre), can book tickets in one of the private booths. These are rooms above the stage, looking down onto the cast and audience. The view from here is incomparable, but don’t forget that in a stage flooded with bright light, you’ll also be on full display.

See Shakespeare performed as it would have been back in the day
If you thought Shakespeare was boring at school, you're in for a shock - Pop-up Globe is bawdy, hilarious, brutal and blood-soaked! This is Shakespeare alive and electric - like a party or a rock concert.

Pop-up Globe is actually the biggest importer of stage blood in the southern hemisphere and there are some seriously awesome stage fights! Stand too close, and you might just get sprayed.

The groundlings area has an open-air roof so while everyone hopes for clear skies, the show goes on regardless. But don't worry – there are enough ponchos to go around if it does start to sprinkle, provided by the Pop-up Globe team. Theatre-goers are encouraged to dress appropriately regardless; air conditioners didn’t exist back in 1614 and they don't exist in this theatre either!

You'll have the chance to be part of the show
Audience participation is something most people either love or hate, so it pays to be prepared either way.

While no one will be asked to jump on the stage and interact with the actors, characters frequently directly address audience members, occasionally veering off-script with hilarity often ensuing.

There is plenty of 'mead' to go around
In the old days London’s water was undrinkable, which meant they drank mead on the daily and some of the performances got pretty rowdy.

Thankfully, times have changed and now you can grab a cocktail at Nobu or TWR first. There’s also a pop-up bar on site to keep you well hydrated through the show.

Season is strictly limited - grab tickets HERE before it pops down!
