Firmly placed in the realm of outsiders, surfing here becomes an ecstatic experience, but, as the film progresses, this is tempered by other stories.

Jolyon (Watander, My Countryman and The Staging Post) Hoff’s documentary draws from hundreds of hours of archival 16mm footage, much of it unseen, and in You Should Have Been Here Yesterday the director crafts a poetic, cinematic evocation of the community that explored the coastlines, the ocean, and ultimately the wave itself.

Featuring Marjorie Bendall, Tim Winton, Wayne Lynch, Chris Brock, Bob McTavish, Albe Falzon, Evelyn Rich, Maurice Cole and others, You Should Have Been Here Yesterday is a beautifully realised work.
