Surf Point, on the southern end of Dirk Hartog Island, is a sanctuary zone within the Shark Bay Marine Park. Coral communities in the eastern part of the sanctuary zone lie in three to four metres of water and are protected from oceanic swells by a rocky platform reef. Vase corals, plate corals, a great variety of staghorn species and a wide range of tropical fish species, including a variety of parrotfish, butterflyfish, wrasse, angelfish and snapper, can be seen.
Diving and snorkelling in the Shark Bay Marine Park should only be done on a slack tide. Take care not to anchor on fragile corals. Stay alert for boat traffic.
Surf Point has no facilities.
