While most galleries remain closed for the time being, three of Perth’s leading Aboriginal Art Galleries are  showcasing their exhibitions online. In addition to viewing stunning art produced by local and remote Aboriginal communities, it’s also a chance to support the local WA art sector severely impacted by COVID-19.

Doris Bush Nungarrayi

Artitja Fine Art Gallery

In line with their mission of “Making Cultural Connections through Art,” Artitja works with remote and regional art centre communities to bring an insightful array of Aboriginal artworks to Perth. While regular operations have been restricted, they have adapted by making certain collections available for viewing through an online gallery catalogue.

A beautiful example is ‘IN OCHRE’ Kimberley online, featuring ochre paintings from three of WA’s Kimberley Art Centres: Warmun Art Centre, Waringarri Aboriginal Art Centre (Kununurra) and Kira Kiro Art Centre (Kalumburu). Through immersing yourself in this special collection, you have the opportunity to explore aspects of WA’s Kimberley communities in a relaxed and personalised way. The gallery is now live and can be accessed here.

Langaliki Lewis - Storm Cloud Story

They have also just launched their latest online exhibition Ernabella Arts which features paintings from Australia's oldest continuously running Indigenous Art Centre from the Pukatja Community in far north west of South Australia.

Featuring 36 paintings and 11 limited edition prints, the exhibitions honours the life and art of an artist at the forefront of the contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art movement.

Roseanne Pwerle Morton - Bush Medicine Leaves

Two other collections are also available for viewing online: Cup of Joy and Paintings from the Numina Sisters. Both are running until May 12, providing invaluable insight into painted aspects of Aboriginal ancestral country and the perspectives of rising artists.

All works are available for sale and can be viewed on their website.
