Mitchell Falls

The magnificent Mitchell Falls, or Punamii-unpuu, are an iconic Kimberley landmark and a place of cultural and spiritual significance for the Wunambal people.

    Details

      Description

The Mitchell Plateau is one of the most spectacular parts of the Kimberley. The four-tiered Mitchell Falls is on the the most impressive sights in the Kimberley, and it is an essential detour from the Gibb River Road.

Allow four to six hours for the moderate to difficult 8.6 km round trip to Mitchell Falls so that time can be spent at the falls. The walk is over rough country but the track is marked and is reasonably well-worn. If in doubt, walk in close vicinity to the creek. Take care near the many cliffs.

You can stop and view Little Mertens Falls 800 m from the camping area on the way to Mitchell Falls.
