Madfish Bay

Attractions

Description

More than just a beautiful beach, Madfish Bay is a haven for birdlife.

There are several small beaches at Madfish Bay that are great places to sit and relax between dips in the ocean in the warmer months. You can also try your hand at fishing while you’re there.

Madfish Island lies just off the beach and creates a semi sheltered lagoon in summer. In winter, the ocean swells swirl around the island and smash into each other along a sand spit. Viewed safely from the rocks, this is a spectacular sight.

Madfish Island is a key roosting and breeding habitat for several species of sea and shorebirds. Take your binoculars and see if you can see these birds in nesting season which is generally from October to March. Please respect these birds and stay off the island to allow them to breed undisturbed.

William Bay National Park is very popular in peak periods such as school and public holidays and there are limited parking spaces. Visiting the park outside of these times may provide you with a more enjoyable experience. Camping is not permitted in William Bay National Park.
