Thomson's Lake

Attractions

Description

Over 10,000 birds visit this internationally important wetland and nature reserve each year to feed before the lake dries out in the summer.

The reserve has been fenced to keep out vermin, which has allowed the Southern Brown Bandicoot (Isoodon obesulus) to increase in numbers here. You might also be lucky enough to see the Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus) or Brush Wallaby (Macropus irma), both of which inhabit the park.

The lake is completely circled by a sandy track accessible from a number of gates, with car parks on Russell Road and Branch Circus. The loop walking track is 5.7km long so allow about 2 hours. It is classed as moderately easy (Class 2). Care needs to be taken because tiger snakes are occasionally seen in the area.

Dogs and other domestic animals are not allowed at Thomson's Lake to protect native fauna and flora.

Please bring your own drinking water as there is none available at this site.
