Moingup Springs Campground

Caravan & Camping

Description

A stopping place for drovers over 100 years ago and a peaceful campground today, set among jarrah and marri trees.

In the 1860s, when settlers began to establish farms along the northern edge of the Stirling Range, Moingup Spring became an important water source for sheep and horses being driven through the range. This task took 3 to 4 days. The sheep had to be kept moving or were contained in temporary yards overnight to prevent them from grazing on poisonous pea plants that today are an important part of the park’s diverse flora.

There are two resident rangers, one at the turn-off to Bluff Knoll and the other at Park Headquarters, near Moingup Springs in Chester Pass.

There is also a camping area at Moingup Springs, with toilet facilities and gas barbeques. The creek line here was once an Aboriginal camp site.

NO CAMPFIRES or solid fuel appliances (including stoves, barbeques and heaters) at any time.

Campers´ own liquid or gas fuel barbeques, stoves and heaters can be used at any time, unless a total fire ban has been declared (see Department of Fire and Emergency Services).
