Bushwalking

Punamii-unpuu/Mitchell Falls walk trail

The trail to the park's most spectacular feature winds through a range of different habitats and passes Little Mertens Falls and Big Mertens Falls.

Parts of the trail involve uneven ground, water crossings and scrambling over rocks. It has a Class 5 rating and requires a high level of fitness. Allow 4-6 hours for the 8.6km journey or 2.5 hours each way. Some visitors walk one way to or from the falls and take a helicopter flight in the other direction.

Little Mertens Falls walk trail

This easy to moderate trail leads to Little Mertens Falls where there are stunning views and the opportunity for a swim. Allow 30 minutes return for the 1.6km, Class 3 walk.

River View walk trail

The 2km Class 4 return walk crosses some steep and difficult terrain on the way to a lookout with views over the Mitchell River and surrounding woodland. Allow 1.5 hours for the return journey.

Scenic flights

There is a helipad (and booking office) at the campground where you can arrange a scenic flight to the Mitchell Plateau.
