Stella Bella began in 1996 from a fusion of two of the region’s great wine minds, Stuart Pym and Janice McDonald. With the aim to craft wines that would rival Australia’s best, in 1999 the first 200 cases of barrel-aged Semillon Sauvignon Blanc were highly successful and the winery has flourished ever since. These days winemaking is headed by Luke Joliffe, and viticulture by Steve Martin.
Stella Bella crafts wine under five labels from its four vineyards located throughout southern Margaret River. The south of the region is known for its longer, cooler ripening period, producing wines with higher natural acidity, delicate precision and femininity, reminiscent of a “cool climate” wine style.
Stella Bella first shot to fame with its Suckfizzle, a Bordeaux-inspired Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend. In addition to making Margaret River’s usual suspects, the winery pushes new frontiers with its sangiovese rosé, a small-batch pinot gris and sweet moscato. The wines are made in small batches enabling the winemakers enhance the best characteristics of each fruit parcel to make unique, quality wines.
Stella Bella operates from a charming little cellar door on Rosa Brook Road just minutes from Margaret River town. The full wine range can be tasted, plus visitors can enjoy wine by the glass and BYO picnic options. Group tastings can be arranged in advance.
Dogs are welcome at the estate grounds but must be kept on a lead for their own safety.
