Whitfords Rock

Attractions

Description

Whitfords Rock has many intricate overhangs, ledges and swimthroughs in seven metres. The south-western side, in particular, has some spectacular limestone formations.

Whitfords Rock, just north of Wreck Rock, is easy to find, close to Hillarys Boat Harbour and offers a rewarding dive. At the northern end of Whitfords Rock is an area of broken reef. A very long ledge lies along the reef’s eastern side. Continuing around the reef in a clockwise direction, you will encounter crevices and caves lined with colourful gorgonians, ascidians, sponges and anemones. A series of smaller lumps to the south of the reef contain prolific swimthroughs and crevices. On the western side of the reef you can explore several swimthroughs and caves that go through to holes in the middle of the reef. Marine life includes black-spotted cat sharks and stingrays. More ledges and swimthroughs can be found on the north-western end of the reef.
