The workers cottages that make up the village were originally built for the timber mill workers and their families in the early 1950s. The village operated as a mill town for thirty years and is now listed on the State Heritage Council register. Donnelly has operated as a holiday village since the 1980s.

The 35 village owners at Donnelly River are eco-minded people who value a sense of community.

Accommodation is in affordable self-contained cottages where you can enjoy the tranquillity of the forest, the tame wildlife and the easy going pace. Donnelly River Holiday Village is an ideal family getaway. Bike riding, forest walks and the flying fox are just some of the activities available. There is also a picturesque lake for a cooling swim on a hot summer’s day. Make friends around the outdoor campfire at night, toast marshmallows, or pull out the guitar for a sing-a-long. Chop some wood for the indoor wood fires, and feel like a pioneer. The cottages are free from televisions, internet or phone reception, so experience a real getaway from the everyday. It is also the perfect venue for group gatherings, reunions, weddings, birthday celebrations with the Workers Club available for function hire. Special kids activities are scheduled during school holidays including workshops, treasure hunts and games, as well as a daily afternoon movie shown in the Theatrette.

The village is situated between Bridgetown, Nannup and Manjimup, all within an easy 25 - 30 km drive through the forest and is the mid-point of the popular Bibbulmun Walking Track, a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of Western Australia. The Munda Biddi trail, open to mountain bikers, has recently opened and also goes straight through the village.

The general store operates 7 days a week offering a range of services including great coffee, groceries and local giftware plus a range of homemade cakes and lunch options.
