West Lewis Island is off the coast of Dampier and is about 10.3 km long and 2.5km wide.
Stone ruins on the eastern side of the island are believed to be the remains of one of the earliest pastoral settlements in WA’s Dampier Archipelago (dated from the1880s). However Aboriginal rock engravings found at the settlement presumably predate the colonial period.
Like many of the islands in the archipelago the environment provides opportunities for fishing, snorkelling, swimming and camping.
Please bring your own drinking water as there is non available and take home all rubbish. So that the fragile environment continues to be protected dogs are not allowed and fires are prohibited .
