Description

Built in 2003, Ilkurlka Roadhouse's main purpose is to serve the communities to the north and south during times of Aboriginal business and travel. Ilkurlka is the only roadhouse on the Anne Beadell Highway between Coober Pedy and Laverton. Therefore, it also serves as a vital stopover for travellers on the Anne Beadell Highway.

The studio is set on top of a sand dune with magnificant views over the desert, providing a magical sunset-viewing location. Structures at Ilkurlka include the roadhouse, arts studio, logistics shed and amenity structures. These are all architecturally designed ergonomically and functionally. Additionally, Ilkurlka is entirely solar powered.

Accomodation at Ilkurlka range from a campground with a shower, toilet and bbq area to a self-contained studio. The campsite area comprises of large drive-through powered sites with outdoor lighting near shower and toilets. The new studio accommodation is nestled on top of a sand dune and architecturally designed to harmonise with the surrounding desert.

The shed tank's structures and signage within Spinifex Lands provide a welcome to travellers, an initiative of the traditional owners.
