Description

Discover stunning cool climate wines of Bremer Bay’s first vineyard, planted in 1996, then explore the Wellstead Heritage Museum, showcasing local cultural artefacts from 1850 to present.

Gnornbup Wines is the Great Southern's most eastern vineyard where the strong coastal influence has created a unique micro-climate. The winery was established in 1996 by William Wellstead, and the first commercial crop of Chardonnay was planted in 2001.

The vines flourish in the coastal plains of Bremer Bay where a distinct micro-climate, generated by the unique geography (similar to the Margaret River region), produces wines with fresh, fruit-driven characters, vibrant colour and refreshing acidity. The vineyard is very environmentally conscious, with a distinct focus on soil health, the minimisation of chemical interference and canopy management.

The Wines

Wines made include cool climate Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurtztraminer, Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Curio wine enthusiasts will love discovering the Pedro Ximenez and Ploughman's Nip (a dry, fortified red wine).

Cellar Door

The small, cosy cellar door at Gnornbup is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 4pm from October to March for wine tastings. From April to September, the cellar door only opens from Thursday to Saturday.

Unique Highlights

Located on the property is the Wellstead Heritage Museum set in a gorgeous old stone building housing thousands of pieces of local history that the family have been collecting at the homestead since 1850.
