Porongurup Wine Festival (expired event)

Set amongst a sweeping mountainous skyline, a staple boutique Great Southern wine festival returns for its 28th year.

The 2017 Porongurup Wine Festival will be held at Karrivale on March 5 as part of the annual IGA Taste Great Southern.

Unlike other gourmet festivals in the state, this local wine festival connects the community directly with producers to create an authentic experience.

Porongurup Wine Festival Event Co-ordinator Nichola Broad said the event brings the region together.

“Return festival goers feel they know the boutique producers and love the unique terroir, cool climate wines,” Ms Broad said.

“The Porongurup community and wineries take pride in showcasing what is special here at the Festival,” she said.

A gourmet festival is incomplete without gourmet food presentations by celebrity chefs.

However, for the first time, organisers of the wine festival invited some well-known local Great Southern chefs to present alongside the celebrity chefs.

Other highlights of the event will include tastings from nine local Porongurup wineries, the Great Grape Stomp, a wine Masterclass presented by Australian sommelier Dan Wegener, live music, gourmet food, activities for kids and much more.
