Description
Two eminent WA artists take on the extreme sport of 'en plein air' painting. Each to their own. Each translating the unpredictability of painting outdoors into inspiring works of art.
Kevin Robertson & Jane Martin. New work from two fine artists with an affinity for the natural environment. At Art Collective WA. Opening 17 March. Closing 14 April 2018.
Kevin Robertson
Zooming in and out of the constantly changing environment - from the micro world of meteorite landscapes ... to the vast spaces of the desert ... to the transient movement of clouds, Kevin’s paintings are subject to the en plein air approach. The process of working from direct observation outdoors means that very little is predictable - altering light, unrepeatable conditions and subjective environmental influences all affect the outcome of the work. Nature is, in this sense, in collaboration with the artist and not a passive subject. The accidents of process plus an acute observation and responsiveness to the conditions of the site create an intense and visually vibrant Wonderwall.
Jane Martin
'En plein air landscape painting is an extreme sport - fast painting in changing circumstances of light, weather, seasons, time ... But great fun and a delight in seeing more than one (I, anyway) would ever imagine.'
