Description

KAMILE GALLERY is pleased to present special collection of traditional contemporary Indigenous Australian paintings from the significant Brennan Collection, created on Elcho Island, Arnhem Land - Nothern Territory in 1990. Exhibition presents works painted by members of the Galiwinku community on Elcho Island, including twenty-nine surrounding outstations. Natural ochre acrylic paints used on stretched canvas, referred to by the Yolngu people as ‘white man bark’. Prior, these images have been painted on the body or on bark for traditional cultural ceremonies.
