Description

Workshop | Explore the relationship between light and shadow to create realistic dimension in your work.

A fundamental painting technique in Renaissance art, Chiaroscuro (from Italian chiaro, "light" and scuro, "dark") uses the extreme contrast of light and shadow to create the impression of three-dimensional objects. Artist Anne McCaughey will guide participants in examining photographs, encouraging them to `see` three-dimensional shapes created by extremes of light and dark. Using charcoal, red sienna chalk and white chalk, participants will use these skills to create realist works on coloured paper. Tickets are strictly limited and include champagne and nibbles. $45, available at https://www.lesterprize.com/. About the artist Born in Northern Ireland, Anne McCaughey attended Brighton Art College and specialised in Fine Art Illustration. After graduation, McCaughey lived and worked in London, creating illustrations for Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Honey and tells of working for Vivienne Westwood for French Vogue in the `80s. She met her Australian partner in Belfast and moved to Australia in 2001. McCaughey has had thirty solo exhibitions in a variety of countries and she is represented in the private collections of HRH Prince Charles, the Duke and Duchess of Abercorn and U2 among others.
