Events Aug 31

Description

An intergenerational discussion.

In response to Agatha Gothe-Snape and the Cruthers Collection of Women’s art presented this season at PICA, Women In Art will discuss the history of women’s art and the arrival into the present. Join us for this critical panel exploring where we have come from, where we are, and where we need to go.

Why were so many women airbrushed from galleries? What were the movements behind the fight for creative spaces for women? How were these echoed throughout Perth, Australia, and the world? Women In Art provides insight behind the foundations laid for today’s emerging women artists.

It follows that we explore what this foundation has given today’s women artists. What are the opportunities that have been won? What opportunities and accomplishments are yet to be acknowledged? What struggles do contemporary female artists face? Women In Art shares experiences in practise and the battles that lay ahead.
