Closing Night - Pan's Labyrinth - 2018 Spanish Film Festival Perth (expired event)

Events May 16

164 James St, Northbridge, WA 6003

Description

Mark the end of the 21st Spanish Film Festival and celebrate the remarkable cinematic achievements of Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro.

Join us at Cinema Paradiso from 6.45pm on Wednesday, 16 May for a glass of Torres wine on arrival before the 7pm screening of his classic PAN'S LABYRINTH.

The visionary Mexican director recently took home four Academy Awards including Best Film and Best Director with a further nine nominations for his whimsical and spellbinding underwater romance The Shape of Water. To celebrate this incredible achievement, we’re bringing his beloved dark fairy-tale (and fantasy classic) Pan’s Labyrinth back to the big screen to close our 21st festival.

In 1944 Spain, following a bloody Civil War, young Ofelia travels to the north with her pregnant mother to live at the command post of her new stepfather, Captain Vidal, a sadistic man hell-bent on ridding the countryside of rebel forces. When Ofelia discovers a magical labyrinth under the ground, she flees into it, seeking refuge from the terrors of the conflict. But the subterranean world turns out to harbour its own kind of threats. Here she encounters all manner of creatures, benevolent and otherwise, including a grotesque faun who gives her three dangerous tasks to complete. And so Ofelia undertakes a quest to claim her crown as princess of this realm. (Spanish with English subtitles).
