Description

The annual Pets at the Park is the purr-fect opportunity for animal-lovers to get together, “paws” for thought and share “a-mews-ing tails” at College Park on April 7.

The annual Pets at the Park is the purr-fect opportunity for animal-lovers to get together, “paws” for thought and share “a-mews-ing tails” at College Park on April 7.

From 8am to midday, pets of all shapes and sizes – and their families – can come along to enjoy a pet show, agility and training demonstrations and various kids’ activities.

Pet food, pet-minding, dog obedience, dog washing, animal photography, pet-tag engraving and pet products will be on offer at a variety of stalls.

Two-legged creatures can enjoy the sausage sizzle, ice cream van and coffee on offer.

Presented by the City of Nedlands, Town of Claremont and Delicate Care, Pets at the Park also includes participation from Swanbourne Veterinary Centre, other local vet clinics and rangers from Nedlands, Claremont, Cottesloe and Mosman Park.

Rangers will be scanning for microchips on the day and updating registration details.

Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins said Pets at the Park was a chance to bark up the right tree and learn more about responsible pet ownership.

“Local vets will be on hand to answer questions about caring for their health and rangers can help with details about designated dog exercise areas, registering dogs and cats and picking up after pets,” he said.

“The event is also a good opportunity to take advantage of discounted microchipping – these devices really help rangers to return pets to their homes if they ever go missing.”

Town of Claremont Mayor Jock Barker said Pets at the Park allowed pet owners to meet one another, socialise and find out more about services available.

“Last year, plenty of pet lovers came along with their pets and we are expecting just as many in 2019, if not more,” he said.

“The pet show is always one of the most popular activities with prizes for fluffiest pet, ‘most like their owner’ and best trick.

“Whether it’s a fox terrier, Russian Blue or the best bitzer, all breeds great and small are welcome to come along.”

All dogs must be on leads and cats must be in cages.

College Park is on the corner of Melvista Avenue and Loton Road, Nedlands.
