Pete Jeavons Nonet at The Duke (expired event)

Events Thursday September 9th

135 George Street, East Fremantle, WA 6158

Description

Hard swinging jazz alongside earthy blues and gospel sounds, some blistering tempos and the occasional poignant ballad. The aesthetic of a big band with the spontaneity and interplay of a small group.

Having performed at the Duke of George many times with groups such as Sassafras, The Electric Django Quintet and Awakenings Ensemble, bassist Pete Jeavons brings his Nonet to the stage at the Duke for the group's debut Fremantle performance. The Pete Jeavons Nonet primarily draws on the music of American jazz luminaries such as Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey and Oliver Nelson to name a few. Repertoire also includes some compositions by Australian jazz musicians/composers including one or two penned by Jeavons himself. All the music is arranged by Pete Jeavons specifically for this nine piece line-up. Featuring a stellar line-up of Perth jazz talent, this promises to be an evening of high energy, top quality jazz.
