Description

The Graduate Dramatic Society presents Tennessee Williams' haunting classic ‘‘The Glass Menagerie’’, directed by award winning playwright and director, Jane Hille, in the Dolphin Theatre.

‘‘Memory takes a lot of poetic license. It omits some details; others are exaggerated according to the emotional value of the articles it touches, for memory is seated predominantly in the heart…’’ -T. Williams

The sinuous recollections of Tom Wingfield are witnessed in this interpretation.

He is the narrator of the play.

He is a poet.

His family’s reality is destroying his dreams.

Amanda Wingfield is Tom’s deserted mother. Left to raise their son and daughter.

Her memories operate in juxtaposition to the realities of her life.

Laura Wingfield, Tom’s sister, also chooses to escape her ‘physically’ compromised world.

The characters in this play are a menagerie, kept in captivity for exhibition.

They are a family made sinewy.

They have been stretched to the point of snapping, trying to stay connected.

Tom’s retelling of his experiences are like fibrous tissues that he pitifully joins as justification.

We step back with Tom, into his memory and witness what he recalls, from his earlier life.

This is a poignant, powerful and relevant play about a splintering family.

An amateur production by arrangement with Origin™ Theatrical, on behalf of Samuel French, Ltd
