There will be stars all the way on award-winning tour operator, Global Gypsies’, new astronomy tag-along-tour!
This unique six-day, self-catering, self-drive outback experience from February 20 – 26, 2020, will begin in Gingin, end in Moora and visit several towns on the newly established “Astrotourism Trail”.
You don’t need a 4WD to participate and caravans, camper-trailers, campers and all types of vehicles are welcome. The group will travel in a small convoy led by one of WA’s top tour guides, Jeremy Perks, and his partner Jan Barrie. Accommodation will be in caravan parks (optional cabins also available) and the program will include a complimentary ‘Welcome Sky-High Tea’ and a ‘Force-Be-With-You Farewell Dinner’.
Speakers in the fields of astronomy, telescope viewing, astrotourism, astrophotography, Aboriginal astronomy and celestial navigation will share their knowledge at a series of private presentations which will include the demonstration and use of professional viewing equipment. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own cameras, tripods, binoculars and telescopes to practice and improve their astro-skills with tips from the pro’s. Dates and venues have been selected to offer maximum night viewing opportunities while daylight hours will be spent sightseeing at a range of local attractions.
The tour is a joint venture with the Stargazers Club of WA. Club Founder Carol Redford says, “Stargazing is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the world and astrotourism is experiencing a massive increase in popularity. WA is ideally positioned to capitalise on this trend with its vast open spaces and superb dark sky locations.
