On December 13 2005, Tjukurba Art Gallery was officially opened by the Shire of Wiluna as a venue for creative expression, and to celebrate the visual culture of the local Martu people. The gallery has been under intense renovations for the last 12 months, and we are pleased to announce its reopening in the second half of 2017. The gallery now combines professional and contemporary exhibition spaces with the beautiful historical features of the original, heritage-listed building. Situated at the back of the Shire of Wiluna premises on Scotia Street, the gallery has now grown into an important part of the community and displays a wonderful selection of paintings, prints and jewellery, all locally produced by the Birriliburu, the clan of Martu people specific to this region.

Description: Tjukurba Art GalleryThe gallery is not for profit and provides artists with professional quality materials, a comfortable art room, promotion of their artworks and access to workshops and activities to develop further their artistic skills. The gallery takes a very modest commission which does not meet our operational costs, but we are committed to providing the Birriliburu with a gallery that pays them fairly, respects their copyright and treats their work and culture with respect.

Artists draw inspiration from the stunning landscape in this region which includes the Canning Stock Route, Gunbarrel Highway, numerous Rock holes such as North Pool and Bowanoo to name just a few.

Tjukurba is a foundation member of AACHWA, and an associate member of Desart. We are also members of Arts Law, adhering to all official codes of conduct and fully supporting the ethical trade of Indigenous Art.

Tjukurba is a part of the Shire of Wiluna who house, maintain and financially support the gallery. In addition, we receive significant support from the Australian Government through Indigenous Visual Art Industry Support funding. Without the Shire of Wiluna and the federal government, Tjukurba would simply not exist and could not continue to operate.

The gallery is open on weekdays from 8:30am to 4pm, except on public holidays and between the Christmas and New Year period. Appointments can be made to view artwork on the weekend by contacting our Art Gallery Manager Sara Walker on 0468 680 181.

Tjukurba Art Gallery and the Shire of Wiluna acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians of the land where we reside, the Birriliburu.
