Fremantle Ports Maritime Day Expo has something for everyone with free harbour boat rides, Guided missile frigate HMAS Sydney open for visiting and loads of bands, entertainment and activities for the kids. Make sure you head to Victoria Quay and check it out for yourself.
Royal Australian Navy Anzac-class guided missile frigate HMAS Sydney (IV) will be berthed on Victoria Quay for public tours for Fremantle Ports Maritime Day free expo on Saturday 31 August.
HMAS Sydney has recently participated in the bilateral Australia/US exercise Talisman Saber in the Coral Sea. The Navy is planning a number of outdoor displays, including one of the world’s most advanced underwater rescue systems, the LR5 submersible, which is designed for retrieving sailors from stranded submarines.
Free harbor rides courtesy Challenger Institute of Technology will be on offer or, for a gold coin donation per family, expo visitors can tour the harbour on Rottnest Express’s Eco Express boat. They can also tour a tug and Fremantle Ports’ emergency response boat.
B Shed on Victoria Quay will have a photographic exhibition and 40 information booths, with maritime industry people on hand to talk about maritime education and careers.
Attractions for children include art activities with well-known Fremantle artist Angela Rossen, dress-ups, balloon twisting and face painting.
Navy chefs will face off with Fremantle Ports in the annual seafood cook-off, with tasty samplings available for a gold coin donation to charity. Pipe bands, school bands and other entertainment have been programmed and food and drinks will be available for sale at E Shed Markets, Tasty Express café at B Shed and the Maritime Museum café.
Entry to the Maritime Museum will cost only a gold coin on the day.
