Description

WA Youth Orchestras is a not-for-profit Association dedicated to musical excellence and providing opportunities for young Western Australian musicians aged 8 - 24.

The Western Australian Youth Orchestras Association (Inc.) (formerly the Western Australian Youth Music Association) is a non-profit Association dedicated to musical excellence.

Founded in 1974 in Perth, Western Australia, the Association has enriched and diversified music practice in Australia, which in recent years has been through the delivery of eight ensembles which now include the Western Australian Youth Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the WA Youth Symphonic Band, the Collegium and Sinfonietta String Orchestras, the award-winning Flute Choir and two South West Youth Strings ensembles. WA Youth Orchestras' 500 members are aged from 8 to 24 and are drawn from all parts of Western Australia. The Association regularly reaches live audiences in excess of 30,000 per annum.

Conductors and tutors are drawn from the ranks of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the School of Music at The University of Western Australia, and the Music Department at the WA Academy of Performing Arts.

To become a member of one of our ensembles, students audition every year in November. Audition information and application forms are available for download from the WAYO website mid-August each year, and also upon request from the WAYO office.

We are supported by our principal partner, Woodside, corporate sponsors and generous individuals. If you would like to know more about supporting our ongoing activities and exciting future projects, please visit our Donations page or give us a call.
