Combining Persian and jazz instruments, Kohesia Ensemble draws upon the 10th Century Persian Epic Poem, Shahnameh - exploring tales of creation, kings, dragons and demons through music.

Winners of the 2020 FRINGE WORLD Martins Sims Award, Kohesia Ensemble present a suite of songs inspired by the Persian epic poem, Shahnameh. Combining Persian and jazz instruments, Kohesia Ensemble draws upon Ferdowsi's 10th Century masterpiece, exploring tales of creation, kings, dragons and demons through music. A night of mythical and epic proportion!  "A must see for all true music lovers!" - Fringefeed, 2020 Led by double bassist Kate Pass, Kohesia Ensemble serves as a platform for Kate’s original compositions, influenced by her passion for both jazz and Persian music. Kohesia Ensemble explores unusual time structures and microtonal melodies, combining the sounds of Persian and jazz instruments for a unique listening experience. Having released their debut album “Kohesia” in 2018, Kohesia Ensemble was nominated for 2018 WAM Best Album, Best Jazz Act and Best World Act. Kohesia Ensemble won the 2020 FRINGE WORLD Martin Sims Award and was also one of four acts to be shortlisted for the Award in 2019. Kohesia Ensemble has performed at an array of festivals including National Folk Festival (ACT), Illawarra Folk Festival (NSW), Fairbridge Festival, WAMFest, and Perth International Jazz Festival.
