Description

Taking inspiration from the dramatic story of Lucretia van den Mylen, this drama of survival is a tale for the ages.

Join us for an atmospheric evening where the WA Shipwrecks Museum is brought to life after dark. Enjoy a reimagining of the dark tale of the Batavia underneath the ship’s timbers by local creatives Genrefonix. This performance takes inspiration from the dramatic story of Lucretia van den Mylen, a notable young Dutchwoman travelling on board the fateful ship when it foundered on Morning Reef off the WA coast in 1629. Light and shadow, papercuts and lace, mutiny and battle… this drama of survival is a tale for the ages. Take a stroll through time on a candlelit tour, and take in the story of WA’s most notorious shipwreck to celebrate during Australian Heritage Festival 2021.
