Description

Join us for BREC’s NAIDOC Week Community Movie Night in partnership with Dandjoo Events.

Experience Adam Goodes’ inspiring film The Final Quarter on BREC’s big screen and then join the conversation.

Winner of multiple awards, including Film Critics Circle’s, Best Feature Documentary 2019, The Final Quarter tells the significant story of Indigenous AFL legend Adam Goodes. Through the lens of Goodes’ journey, the documentary explores race, identity and belonging in Australia today.

This free community event will kick off at 5.30pm with a sausage sizzle followed by The Final Quarter screening at 6pm. The evening continues with a popcorn and tea break after the movie, plus bonus screening of Stan Grant’s powerful racism speech kindly provided by The Ethics Centre.

To empower positive discussion about issues raised in the films, a yarning circle will follow the screenings, facilitated by Yaka Dandjoo Chair, Karen Jetta and other community leaders.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

This is a free community event but please register for your tickets online. Due to Western Australia’s COVID-19 restrictions tickets are limited for this event. If you experience any issues while booking tickets please contact the Box office team on 1300 661 272. The Box Office is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm.
