Princess Royal Fortress is located on Mt Adelaide overlooking King George Sound in Albany. The fortress was established in 1893 to protect Albany and its harbour from the threat of invasion, acting as a deterrent until being decommissioned in 1956. Today the museum consists of restored original buildings, coastal gun emplacements and military displays and is open to the public from 9am to 5pm every day of the year, other than Christmas Day. Enjoy a family day out, learn more about Australia’s coastal defences and get up close and personal with the big guns.
