St Benedicts Church

Commercial Designs

Description

In order to serve a continuing influx of new and young families to the area, the Catholic Parish of Ardross commissioned the new 400 seat St Benedict's Church.

The building strives to express the celebration of the Eucharist integral to the life of the parish and school, and function as a welcoming sanctuary for an active and growing community. Focusing on the idea of community, the central enclosed cloister acts as an important hub for people to gather before and after services. It acts as an overflow area but also as a direct link between the parish church and its administration that diverge from it. Inside, to signify the Church's 50 year long history, a central wall near the entrance preserves a feature stained glass window of St Benedict salvaged from the previous church. As a symbol of joy and unity, the church has injected new life into the community as a vital facility for the liturgical and social activities of the parish and school.
