Our Fave Shop/Cafe Hybrids

Combining our love of coffee, cake and gorgeous giftware, these shop/cafe hybrids are not to be missed.

The Tenth State, Nedlands
Ugh, you know those annoying people who are good at everything? The Tenth State kind of reminds us of them. But after one lick of their violet cupcakes – yes, like the flower – and an eyeful of giftware like their cute teacups and vases, we forgive them their over-achievements. Also, they have a knack for stocking all our Perth obsessions – Mama Tran's banh mi, La Paleta's Mexican-inspired popsicles, and Rawsome goodies, all under one very attractive roof? All right, all right, tall poppy, keep on growin'.

Common Ground/ Banker Cafe, Fremantle
If we're ever feeling a bit lame, we'll be sure to loiter at this new Freo store. It's so cool, we can feel our street cred rising just by standing there. It's a bit of a one-stop-shop on its own, with clothes, jewellery, colourful homewares and even a terrarium garden, but given that it's also home to a cafe, serving coffee, cold-pressed juice, light meals and donuts… it'd be rude not to.

Tea for Tu.

Tea for Tu, Northbridge
This bou-tea-que (geddit?!) is kinda like accidentally wandering into someone's house – 'someone' being either your cute granny or a horn-rimmed hipster. After trawling through the bright clothes from the likes of Alice McCall and House of Cards, plus design journals and gifts, you can settle in for a cuppa and a cake, served on cute vintage plates at the teeny tea parlour downstairs.

Kate & Abel at MANY 6160, Fremantle
Ok, Many 6160, we give you so much love we're starting to feel like that creepy guy at the bar breathing on your neck. But why don't you stop being so cool, huh? Kate & Abel Cafe, run by the very well-heeled (and headed – they own the eponymous millinery next door) Kate Hulett and Matt Bale, stocks local coffee from Big Brew, and loose leaf from Freo's Chai Baba, plus toast from
Bread in Common.
