By restoring the ornate features of this federation home and introducing modern finishings, Mulberry Homes made the most of both old and new.

Preserving the heritage of a 20th century period home in Mt Lawley was the primary focus in this Mulberry Homes renovation.

The stunning facade was refreshed, in a modern take on federation living that maintains the old-world charm for which the home was originally admired. A combination of red tuck-point brick walls, exposed rafter ends, leadlight window panes, white ornamental timber detailing, and false gables takes centre stage on the property’s frontage, and landscaped terracing and steps navigate up the steeply sloped garden for a grand entrance. The decision to retain the original front door was a conscious one, to stay true to the home’s pre-established identity.

Adjacent is a new double garage, positioned to the left at street level. On the right, a feature cobblestone driveway extends up to the rear. New window awnings and fretwork were installed around the verandah.

Internally, Mulberry Homes introduced a new gym, and employed chemical grouting under the foundations of the new, timber cellar staircase.

Towards the back, a new alfresco/pavilion garden was excavated into
natural ground. The partially enclosed entertaining zone was completed with rustic overtones, including polished wooden decking, a feature stone fireplace, and exposed brick walls. This was accompanied by ceiling fans, a gold pendant light, and state-of-the-art kitchenette, to echo the homely ambience indoors.
Lantern lights wrapping around the property provide continuity to the home’s federation theme.
