Cameron Chisholm Nicol’s recent project, Mika, reflects an increasing demand for choice and diversity in residential design.

Mika is a boutique residential development of 38 apartments in the emerging South Beach precinct. Just a stone's throw from the water's edge, the location offers a coastal lifestyle in close proximity to the commercial, retail and entertainment hub of Fremantle.

The four-level complex is made up of nine apartment types, sizes and layouts across 18 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom apartments.

These include eight two-storey units enjoying double-height internal volumes and balconies.

The building is broken up into three segments, both in response to the shape of the site and to bridge the scale between the adjacent single-residential buildings and the larger apartment buildings in the area.

Each segment addresses a 180-degree outlook over landscaped open space.
Private courtyards and balconies afford occupants access to views, and admit abundant natural light while allowing passive surveillance of the street.

Through the setback of blade and apartment walls, the structure of the building has been layered to allow a play of light and shadow that will give a subtle sense of depth to the facade.

Operable louvres add another level of detail and create a dynamic facade, as occupants reposition the louvres in response to individual needs.

Aged copper was chosen for the external cladding for its durable qualities and ability to improve over time.

Ninety per cent of the apartments enjoy full-flow cross ventilation, allowing occupants to capture cooling sea breezes and minimise a reliance on mechanical cooling.

Mika's strong sales reflect the success of the ongoing partnership between Cameron Chisholm Nicol and Match Projects, in bringing high-quality apartment design to the Perth market.
