Amanda's paintings evoke the coastal landscapes around her home country around Victor Harbor, the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Coorong in South Australia. Amanda’s family are Ngarrindjeri people and Amanda credits her maternal grandfather with her natural inclination towards art and the cultural background of her family. Amanda Westley creates artworks filled with the flow and energy of life along the coast. There are the rhythms of the waves and the sea, the falling away of the cliffs down towards the sea. The colours are of both land and sea, showing the interaction between the two along the land’s edge

C.O.O.L. people, take note - this is Confidence Man’s only Australian tour for 2022, before they jet off to tour UK and Europe for a run of shows with Oasis legend Noel Gallagher, major festivals including Glastonbury, and a slew of headline club shows. It’s safe to say recent singles ‘Holiday’, ‘Feels Like A Different Thing’ and album opener ‘Woman’ show Confidence Man are ready to go large. With bigger beats and even bigger attitudes, it’s nuanced pop stardom in glorious supersaturation.

Using characters from Doctor Who’s classic era, Lethbridge-Stewart: Blue Blood is an action-packed thriller best described as “sci-fi horror”. Bodies of missing people around the world start turning up, as if ripped apart by wild animals, seemingly linked to an experiment gone wrong 30 years ago in World War II. “Given the horror elements in my novel, the Perth Horror Film Festival seemed an ideal place to do a book signing,” Thomas said. “Many Doctor Who stories themselves have drawn on horror classics such as Frankenstein, Dracula and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde or styles of horror, including Nordic noir. “They all have a broody atmosphere that draws you in but add a science-fiction twist along the way. “On August 20, the Perth Horror Film Festival is having its own night of sci-fi horror with several local short films evoking the theme and the main feature, The Day the Earth Caught Fire.” Thomas will be signing copies of his novel, available for $20 cash, from 6pm August 19 and 20 and 1pm August 21.

The artworks by Dr George possess a wonderful rawness and boldness, conveying his strong continuous association with traditional country and its ceremonies and body painting rituals. Dr George was a traditional Aboriginal medicine man, a Ngangkari or Clever Man, and has worked with Kintore and Tjukurla medical clinics. His paintings reflect Tingari stories from his traditional country at Karrinwara, west of Kintore and Kilingya west of Jupiter Well.

Eternal MMA is an Australian Mixed Martial Arts organisation that provides Australian and New Zealand fighters the opportunity to compete against the region's very best fighters as they rise through the ranks. In an exciting collaboration with the University of Western Australia’s Conservatorium of Music, Breaksea presents a new, fully staged production of Fairy Queen - a stunning reinvention of William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream and Henry Purcell's baroque opera Fairy Queen directed by Matt Ward. Fairy Queen features a massed cast of actors, choirs and Breaksea youth mentorship participants performing alongside the University of Western Australia’s Conservatorium of Music Orchestra led by Shaun Lee Chen and world renowned sopranos Sara Macliver and Pia Adriana Harris. Fairy Queen is the final performance of the Shadows - A Youth Mentorship Program which engages with hundreds of regional youth between March and August 2022. Shadows - A Youth Mentorship Program is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music & Albany Entertainment Centre.

Whatever the reason, fans of the genre are in for some good news – the first annual Perth Horror Film Festival is ready to engage you in plenty of fear, suspense and terror with a variety of popular movies and independent shorts. From August 19 to 21, the Perth Horror Fans are taking over The Backlot Perth for three days of terrifying chills, bloody deaths and audience screams. Perth Horror Fans director Vanessa Gudgeon said the festival had been curated by genre fans – for genre fans. “The program showcases the incredible talents of local horror and science-fiction short filmmakers, paired with classic feature films that are rarely screened in Australia,” she said. “There are lots of prizes being given away across the three days. Audience members are able to have their say by voting for their pick of best short film. “The goal is to inspire filmmakers to uphold the standards of genre filmmaking in WA, while still being given the freedom to make the films they want.”

Small Town Rituals sees Garrett harnessing an organic approach to the writing process, allowing his emotions to come to the forefront to deliver his most vulnerable piece of work to date. The 9 tracks explore various subconscious narratives that provided Garrett “a chance to look forward and back upon my life and gain new perspectives on things.”

In GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE, two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson (Love, Actually) embodies the candor and apprehension of retired teacher Nancy Stokes, and newcomer Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders) personifies the charisma and compassion of sex worker Leo Grande. As Nancy embarks on a post-marital sexual awakening and Leo draws on his skills and charm, together they find a surprising human connection.

Green Day were heavily involved in the musical’s development from its first iteration at the Berkeley Repertory and to Broadway and beyond – Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong also stepped into the critical role of St. Jimmy on Broadway a few times during its run. The musical made it’s debut on Broadway in 2010 and features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track “American Idiot”. Also included in the score are several songs from Green Day’s 2009 release “21st Century Breakdown,” and an unreleased love song, “When It’s Time.” It tells the story of three friends, Johnny, Will and Tunny - each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 America, discovering love, loss, drugs, sex and rock and roll along the way. American Idiot will be directed by Artistic Director of Midnite, Gregory Jones, with musical direction by Jarrod Van Dort conducting an eight-person live band. "We are excited to bring this explosive rock opera to life", says Midnite's Director, Gregory Jones. “It’s a high-octane show with strong social messages that are relevant today, providing an opportunity for young people to challenge their decision making and express themselves.” The production brings together a talented ensemble of year 11 and 12 students from a range of schools throughout WA. Based at Christ Church Grammar School, Midnite has a reputation for producing outstanding productions and nurturing young and upcoming WA talent. Note: the show contains coarse language and mature themes.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK examines the music industry’s relationship to the environment. While the film chronicles the making of In Hearts Wake’s 100% carbon offset 2020 album Kaliyuga and their journey to becoming the first band to be a certified Carbon Neutral Organisation, it is more than a film about one band and one album. As In Hearts Wake examine their processes and search for more environmentally sustainable options, inspiring new possibilities for an entire industry begin to emerge. Food and entertainment will be present throughout the spring festival, with various food and drink options available. Including grab-and-go options from the Roundhouse Café, and seated food and drink at the iconic Chalet Healy Café. Children’s entertainment will be provided including face painting, with the added opportunity to have a go using our Augmented Reality filters! The Red Dust Revival begins informally on Monday 19 September and continues on Tuesday with informal practice. The first cars and bikes will arrive over the weekend and have test runs on the track. Participants will arrive over a few days. Cars and motorcycles will be able to do some tuning and become acquainted with the track. The event proper begins on Wednesday 21 September with formal practice when there will be cars and motorcycles alternating for practice at speed on the track. At no time are non-competitors allowed to drive on the track. We need to preserve the track. Track insurance only covers participants. Thursday 22 September is for timed speed runs for car and bikes to establish handicap times. Our plan is for everyone to be able to do a timed lap of Perkolilli at their own top speed. The circuit is about two miles long so with about 110 cars and 40 motorcycles, everyone should be able to explore the capabilities of their own driving and their car. Of course, the event is about fun not who wins (the winners are the ones who have managed to make it to Perko!) or who is fastest. Friday 23 September to Sunday 25 September will be the spectacle of motorcycle racing and cars in fields eight putting on demonstrations of racing as it was in the glory days. The car events will be arranged so that we have staggered starts and massed finishes across the line. This will make it very entertaining for participants and spectators. The aim is for everyone to be able to experience what it was like to race at Lake Perkolilli in the events held between 1914 and 1939 and have a lot of fun. Lake Perkolilli is not a modern race track so top speeds for the fastest cars will be moderated for safety. Of course, the Red Dust Revival is not just about what happens on the track. The pits are open and talking to the participants about their bikes and cars is one thing which makes it special. It is awesome that so many people have built and prepared vehicles to take to Perkolilli, and they are always up for a chat! Variety Goldfields has put in a huge effort to create a village atmosphere at Lake Perkolilli for the week. Food and drink will be available all day, from breakfast to dinner.
