Perth saw some exciting and unique cafe additions to the brunch roster in 2021. After the tribulations of the pandemic, the city has been slowly opening its doors to new venues and fresh eats. From fluffy banana pancakes in the northern suburbs to beachside feeds, here are five noteworthy new cafes that opened this year.

Nogi Lane, Dianella

Opened in mid-April, Dianella locals Callum Ellis and Tracey Ly have been bringing the edgy vibes of big city venues to Perth’s inner north. The trendy fit out and contemporary menu doesn’t sacrifice the community atmosphere, as the couple-manager duo are passionate about their neighbourhood. Head chef Jason Nicholas (Vasse Felix, Hotel Rottnest) curates a mouth-watering menu and draws on his Indian Burmese heritage in his dishes. Some stand out meals are the banana pancakes served with a macadamia crumble and a butterscotch and vanilla waffle cone, and the Danadargan organic spicy pulled beef, with poached eggs, spinach and cardamom.

Nogi Lane is open from 6am to 2pm Monday to Friday, and from 7am to 2pm on the weekend.

Forklore, West Perth

Since its doors opened in January this year, the West Perth brunch hit has been serving Asian inspired dishes and raking in rave reviews. Hanji and Hanli Khor’s Forklore boasts a bold and diverse menu, plating up favourites like tonkotsu congee and chicken katsu sandos. The forest green ceilings are draped with lush planters that hang above the sleek minimalistic interior, transforming the former office building into an inner-city haven. If you’re more of a sweet tooth, pair one of their delectable croissants with a specialty brew supplied by Five Senses Coffee.
