Close to four hours from Perth and less than 30km from the coast, Northcliffe is a nature lover’s hotspot. Admire unique flora and fauna within the towering jarrah and marri trees surrounding the town and visit the nearby national parks.

Windy Harbour is about a 20-minute drive from Northcliffe, and on the way you could even summit Mount Chudalup, a 1.5km walk offering 360-degree views over the national park, the Southern Ocean and the sand dunes in Yeagarup. Take the Summit Walk Trail, which leaves from the picnic area at the carpark.

After this, drive further south to Point D’Entrecasteaux, all accessible by 2WD and offering sweeping views of the rugged coastline. You might even be able to spot migrating whales and seals! From here there are more walks, such as the Cliff Top Walk, to admire the wild ocean below. Cathedral Rock Beach is a lovely spot where you can swim and fish to your heart’s content.

A must-see activity in Northcliffe is the art trail called Understory, a 1.2km walk through pristine forest, featuring sculptures from renowned artists. Look out for the Rising From the Ashes display, created by an award winner at Cottesloe’s Sculptures By the Sea, Kim Perrier. The accompanying audio tour will provide you with interviews, stories, poetry and music to enhance your experience. If you come in Spring, you will be treated to the wildflowers blooming over the forest floor. The trail starts at the visitor centre, which will be a great opportunity to ask about other hidden treasures in Northcliffe and surrounds.

The town of Northcliffe offers a caravan park and a motel for overnight stays, but if you head a little bit out of town you will find hidden chalets and cottages ready for a peaceful night’s stay.
