There’s no better way to enjoy the summer than lying back under the stars to watch a great film.

There's no better way to enjoy the summer than being able to lie back under the stars and watch a movie. With plenty of outdoor cinemas showing new releases and old favourites, this is the best time to get out there, crack open some wine and enjoy the beautiful West Australian evenings.

Before you get started, here are a few little tips for making the night extra special.

When to arrive
Arrive there with enough time to ensure you get a spot with a good view. If you have more than just a picnic-load to carry, getting there early and finding a close parking sport will help. The films generally start when the sun goes down so you will want to be all set up beforehand.

What to bring
It can get a little bit chilly when the sun goes down so be sure to pack a few extra layers of clothing and blankets. Sitting on the ground can get a little uncomfy, so some nice big pillows will make your lounging experience much more enjoyable. Most importantly, don't forget some good old mozzie repellent or you risk getting eating alive!

Food & drinks
The best thing about outdoor cinemas is that the majority are BYO. Bring along a few beeers or some wine for the night and a picnic of goodies for dinner. Each venue also has the option of onsite caterers.

We've put together a list of WA's five best outdoor cinemas for you.
