High school students have once again shown us that age is but a number with the Year 12 Perspectives exhibition at the Art Gallery of WA.
The annual exhibition showcases artwork from some of the best, brightest and most talented graduating students in the state.
A total of 58 works by 57 WA students were selected by a judging panel comprising Principal Consultant Visual Arts, School Curriculum and Standards Authority Lisa Bowden, artist Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, and Associate Curator Projects of AGWA Dunja Rmandic.
Scoop fell in love with this photo-realistic painting entitled Permanence. Inspired by Eric Zener's Sleep series and Tracey Emin's bed installation, it was created by Eden Rehling from John Septimus Anglican Community School.
In her artwork description, Eden says the object state is open to interpretation and invites analysis, although it can never be unreservedly classified.
"Beds are so permeated with personal significance, the viewer's context undoubtedly influences their experiences of my work and will affect the emotions they feel seeing the image," she explains.
"My painting and its title are challenging to viewers because they don't present a fixed meaning or one point of view on a subject but rather many possible conclusions that can be drawn.
"Permanence is the state of remaining unchanged indefinitely."
Year 12 Perspectives is running until June 13 at the Art Gallery of WA.
