Description

<p> Anyone who has followed Cowboy Junkies’ three-decade-long journey knows the band has always remained true to its unique artistic vision.  In 1988, they proved that there was an audience waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective. The Trinity Session was like a whisper that cut through the noise with its introspective, quiet intensity. Their new album, All That Reckoning, once again gently shakes the listener to wake up. It may be the most powerful album Cowboy Junkies have yet recorded.</p> <p> Cowboy Junkies inadvertently started a revolution when they appeared in the late ‘80s. The Trinity Session featured the band’s unforgettable cover of the Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane”, and combined folk, country, blues and rock in a way that had never been heard before. It went on to sell more than a million copies but its influence was broader and deeper. Indeed the record presaged the subsequent alternative-country movement in the ‘90s and beyond, with its general mood – the album had been recorded in a church with the group performing around a single microphone.</p> <p> Over subsequent albums the group helped introduce its audience to the work of seminal singer-writers including both Townes Van Zandt and John Prine, and their cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “State Trooper” helped introduce him to the alternative world.  All the while they were building a canon of similarly pared-down original songs and a catalogue of acclaimed albums to rival those of their favorites.</p> <p> Last year’s All That Reckoning confirmed their status; in a 5-star review Mojo Magazine said the album was “equal parts tenderness and edge, sensual and beautifully disturbing”, while The Associated Press said that “All That Reckoning shows Cowboy Junkies in peak form, adding another inspired, alluring album to their repertoire.” National Public Radio called it “as vital as anything they’ve done.” Innocent Words singled out singer Margo Timmins, calling her one of  “just a handful of singers, alongside Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and the late Leonard Cohen, who consistently manage to take vulnerability, emotional rawness and translate it into powerfully moving records time and time again.”</p> <p> Formed in Toronto in 1985 with siblings Michael Timmins on guitar, Margo Timmins on vocals, Peter Timmins on drums, and Michael’s lifelong friend Alan Anton on bass, Cowboy Junkies has never had a break-up or taken a hiatus. They’ve never even endured a line-up change. The group has created a critically acclaimed body of work that has endeared them to an audience unwavering in its loyalty, and which is ripe for discovery by those who may have lost track along the way, or indeed who are new to the group’s charms.</p>

Description

Music’s ability to lift us from despair or deep pain, or at least express our response to spiritual and physical wellness, are neither new nor new age, as 12th-century composer and healer Hildegard von Bingen well understood. English violinist Hugo Ticciati, who will direct this program of meditative but emotionally charged music in his Australian debut, experienced these qualities and “the interconnectedness of everything” as he sought ways to alleviate physical pain so severe it would force him to stop playing. Exploring such responses to life-changing upheavals, Latvian composer Peteris Vasks’ neo-spiritual Lonely Angel was written as a meditation on Mother Earth and redemption. Beethoven’s String Quartet in A minor, a hymn of thanksgiving that begins as a slow prayer before becoming jubilant and ecstatic, emerged from Beethoven’s recovery from a serious illness.

An even greater blow to Beethoven, the realisation of inevitable early deafness, saw his utter despair and futility expressed in the unsent letter of farewell known as the Heiligenstadt Testament. Australian Brett Dean’s Testament draws inspiration from this writing, capturing the fluctuations of hesitancy and passion, and the search for clarity, for healing, in this “wretched despair”.

Description

<p> She’s back! After three years, electronic violinist, dancer and composer, Lindsey Stirling, will make her big return to Australia for four very special shows in support of her latest fifth studio album, Artemis.<br /> <br /> Lindsey remains fearless enough to always dream big. In the years following the release of her 2012 self-titled debut, the electronic music impresario quietly and humbly became one of the 21st century’s most innovative stars by clinging to her ground-breaking vision of cinematic violin-driven electronic music. After bowing at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Dance/Electronic Album Chart, holding #1 on the Classical Album Chart for 21 consecutive weeks, and receiving a Billboard Music Award for “Top Dance/Electronic Album,” her sophomore opus Shatter Me would not only garner an RIAA Gold certification, but it would rank as the #2 Dance/Electronic Album and #1 Classical Album on Billboard’s 2015 Year-End charts.<br /> <br /> Attracting over 11 million subscribers and 2 billion-plus views on YouTube, in 2015 Forbes placed Lindsey at #4 on its yearly YouTube artists list, making her the highest-ranked female. Her headline tours would play to a cumulative audience of over 500,000 people worldwide, and her literary debut The Only Pirate at the Party—co-written with her sister Brook S. Passey—became a New York Times Bestseller.  Lindsey’s third-studio album Brave Enough, debuted at #5 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart, went on to score the #1 spot on Billboard’s year-end Top Dance/Electronic Album list and earned Stirling a 2017 Billboard Music Award for “Top Dance/Electronic Album”. </p>

Description

crtive mgmt. & Select Music presents SLY WITHERS and special guests The Lazy Susans and Semantics, on tour nationally this May & June.

To coincide with the release of ‘Explode Into View,’ the first single from their forthcoming new album, Sly Withers has announced they’ll be embarking on a national tour this May and June, starting in Hobart and working their way around capital cities and regional centres across the country. Tickets are on sale now from www.slywithers.com

On their breakout 2019 EP, Gravis, and particularly its killer single ‘Lately’ feat. Carla Geneve, Sly Withers showed that they had tremendous potential to perhaps break free of the confines of the Australian punk and indie rock scene they were raised on, and make a name for themselves as their own unique entity. ‘Explode Into View’ is the fulfilment of that and then some.

Nothing between then and now has changed in the band’s make-up. Same four members – Mata (guitar / vox), Sam Blitvich (guitar / vox), Joel Neubecker (drums) and Shea Moriarty (bass) – using the same producer as Gravis (Matthew Templeman at his studio in Mount Hawthorn), but now they possess not only another hard year on the road of shows under their belts (including major sets at Falls Festival and supporting the likes of Amy Shark and Slowly Slowly), and a self-belief that can only be built on the back of hard work and a camaraderie forged across sticky floors and tour vans. The result is a towering sound that is much, much greater than the sum of its parts, yet reflects the depth of the emotional core of the band and the love they share for the music they make together.

We acknowledge that these events are taking place on stolen land. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Description

Now The Kite String Tangle jump-starts 2020 with new anthemic single ‘NORTH’ and the announcement of his forthcoming second studio album C()D3X dropping March 2020.

2019 was a breakout year for The Kite String Tangle with a shift to a harder, darker, more electronic sound, a residency in Berlin, sold out headline Australian shows and performances at some of Australia’s biggest regional Festivals.

C()D3X will be supported by a national album tour in May/June which will see audiences cram the dancefloor for The Kite String Tangle’s new darker, electrifying live show across capital cities and select regional towns.

‘NORTH’ - which comes along with a beautifully shot video from Dyllan Corbett – is another undeniable dancefloor anthem from the Brisbane artist/producer, with driving synths accompanied by Danny Harley’s signature vocals.

The single further strengthens the darker direction that The Kite String Tangle is taking which started with last year’s singles ‘P()L4R’ and ‘KILLING TIME’. 'P()L4R' was highly spun on triple j and a regular on the Shazam charts, followed by fan favourite ‘KILLING TIME’ featuring the brilliant vocals of Eliott.

The Kite String Tangle has also enlisted local and overseas talent to remix the new single, with both a Summer Festival ready remix of ’NORTH' from Motez and a peaktime 3am warehouse mix from the UK’s Shadow Child now available on all streaming services.

It’s been a busy couple of years for the Brisbane producer. The release of his debut self-titled album in 2017 which saw him nominated for an ARIA award, three national headline tours, much-talked about sets at Splendour in the Grass and FOMO festivals amongst others. In 2018 he released single ‘Give It Time’, won a Queensland Music Award, played captivating sets at local and international festivals.

Then there was also the release of mini album The Kite String Tangle Presents: In A Desperate Moment which resulted in two sold out shows with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane. All this came alongside the announcement of his own record label Exist. Recordings which has put out well received releases from Brisbane producer Golden Vessel and sibling duo Lastlings.

Description

Celebrated US gothic-rock/folk/doom-metal luminary CHELSEA WOLFE has announced her first full tour of Australia since 2012, scheduled for June this year.

Following her first ever New Zealand tour with shows in Auckland & Wellington, Chelsea Wolfe will bring her visceral, vivid live performance to Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane.

Wolfe will tour with her four-piece band, as well as bringing along Sargent House labelmate EMMA RUTH RUNDLE performing solo as support.

Chelsea Wolfe will perform a career-spanning set on this tour, including songs from her new album “Birth of Violence” released last September.

Chelsea Wolfe last played in Australia in 2016 for Tasmania’s Dark Mofo event, with her last full national tour back in 2012.

Since then, she has continued to earn a cult following worldwide, propelling her previous albums ‘Hiss Spun’ (2017) & ‘Abyss’ (2015) onto the Billboard 200 albums chart and further critical acclaim.

From Roskilde Festival to selling out clubs worldwide, Chelsea Wolfe’s versatility as a performer and songwriter is on full display at her live performances, whether solo or with her band.

2020 will mark 10 years since her debut ‘The Grime and The Glow’ was released, sparking a career that has influenced and inspired fans across continents to appreciate life in both its darkness and light.

‘Birth of Violence’ was written and recorded in solitude at home in Northern California. Following the brooding heaviness of ‘Hiss Spun’, Wolfe chose to return to her folk roots. These songs describe ‘an internal awakening of feminine energy, a connection to the maternal spirit of the Earth and a defiant stance against the destructive and controlling forces of a greedy and hostile patriarchy.’

Opening track ‘The Mother Road’ quickly establishes this sound: simultaneously unnerving and soothing. Whilst critical reviews have been positive, it’s perhaps the feedback from her fans that best describes the power and allure of Chelsea Wolfe in its simplest form:

‘After the doomy heaviness of Hiss Spun, another acoustic record – she seriously can nail it in any style’

‘Her heavier, doomy records got me into her music, but her acoustic material is completely entrancing.’

‘I cannot believe I am lucky enough to be alive in a time where Chelsea Wolfe exists’

Chelsea Wolfe will be joined at all shows on this tour by singer songwriter EMMA RUTH RUNDLE. The curator of this year’s Roadburn Festival, Emma Ruth Rundle is revered for her powerful and evocative songwriting as much as her artistic flair and versatility. In addition to her work with renowned groups RED SPAROWES, MARRIAGES & THE NOCTURNES, Emma has released five solo records, most recently 2018’s ‘On Dark Horses.’ Her passionate live performances are renowned as much as her songcraft and Australian & Kiwi fans will finally get to experience her live performances for the first time ever this June.
