A stop at a country bakery is an unspoken rule on all WA roadtrips. Whether you are stopping for a quick bite or opting to dine in, these regional bakeries (and their staff) are full of character and charm – and are sure to make your stop at each township memorable. Check out our accounts of 3 pioneer bakeries in the iconic south west region below.

Yallingup Woodfired Bakery

Follow the smell of wood-smoke and baking bread to find your way to this local gem, just outside Yallingup. You can pick up warm fruit loafs and organic sourdough, fresh from the woodfire oven, every afternoon between 4 and 5pm; but don’t be surprised if you find yourself in queue.

Margaret River Bakery

This small European-inspired café is located in the picturesque Margaret River Town. Known for its big breakfasts, extensive pastry rotation and fresh-baked breads, this quaint store is a must-visit for a pick-me-up –be it a coffee or a treat.

Dardanup Bakery

A small bakery in the Ferguson Valley that is worth the detour for flaky, homemade pastry and larger-than-life pies. You can enjoy your goodies in the quiet outdoor setting, under a willow, or pack some artisan wood-fired sourdough for the road.
