If you’re the kind of person who finds themselves frantically running around their local supermarket the night before Valentine’s Day, wondering how to creatively present a box of chocolates or a sad bunch of flowers, then we suggest you read on. There are so many events going on around Perth this Valentine’s Day, and we’ve wrapped up the best tips and tricks so you look like a boss – at the last minute!

Free Dance Classes at Juan Rando Dance Academy

If you’re looking to build on your repertoire of dance moves, then it’s a good idea to learn from the professionals. This Valentine’s Day (and every Wednesday) head down to JRDA in Subiaco for beginners level Cuban Salsa. Your first class is completely free, so it’s a great chance to try something new and fun. Plus, you’ll be able to impress your friends on your next night out with your impromptu salsa moves on the dance floor.

Outdoor Movies

The outdoor movie season is in full swing across Perth. There are so many different venues and a huge variety of movies to choose from this Valentine’s Day. Arguably one of the most romantic films of all time, starring a certain Mr Ryan Gosling, is showing at Camelot Outdoor Cinemas (hint: The Notebook), while The Greatest Showman will be gracing the screens of Moonlight Cinema. If you’re after a black and white classic this Valentine’s, head to Bassendean Telethon Cinemas, where they’ll have a completely FREE showing of classic romance, An Affair to Remember. Pack your picnic blankets and snacks for the ultimate romantic set-up.

Fringe Festivities

We think Fringe World is the most wonderful time of the year – and it also makes a great date night. Take your Valentine to one of the Fringe hubs for a couple of pre-show drinks, where you can soak up the atmosphere and browse the shows on offer. If you’d prefer to book tickets in advance (a wise choice to avoid any last-minute embarrassment), then check out some of the amazing shows on the Scoop Events Fringe World guide.

Pizza & Espresso Martinis Special at The Raffles

This is a regular mid-week special at The Raffles Hotel, which just so happens to fall on Valentine’s Day this year! Sounds like a blessing in disguise to us. Head down from 5pm for half price pizzas and $10 espresso martinis – need we say more?

PICA’s Latest Work

If you’re looking for a unique activity to try this Valentine’s Day, check out one of PICA’s current works – seeking basic needs and other tales of excess. This ‘immersive sonic storytelling’ experience transports you across the streets of Northbridge, playing an original soundscape through your headset, while manipulating the use of public space. A great way to embrace the arts and suitable for singles and couples alike this Valentine’s Day! Why not follow it up with a Fringe World show in Fringe Central, which is just a stone’s throw away?

Be Mine Valentine at The Laneway Lounge

Step inside The Laneway Lounge in Perth’s CBD and be transported to a vintage Jazz bar in New Orleans! Treat yourself and your loved one to a private table, 2 glasses of Moet Champagne, a two-tiered platter full of delicious goodies and a live jazz band!

A Cultural Gift?

Think outside the box of the cliché Valentine’s Day presents this year. Black Swan State Theatre Company has an incredible season ahead for 2018 and it kicks off in March, meaning you’ve got plenty of time to arrange a theatre subscription for your loved one. There are a huge variety of ticket packages to choose from, and they can all be booked online – meaning you still have time to purchase one even if you’re reading this on Valentine’s Day!

Lefty Food Trucks Valentine’s Special

Wednesday night at The Left Bank is a Freo favourite! As always, there will be the weekly Lefty Food Trucks and live music in the beer garden from 5pm. Plus, for all the romantics out there, you’ll have the option to reserve a balcony table in the River Bar upstairs for this special occasion. We must say, it’s a rather awe-inspiring view up there, so tables will book out fast!

Perth Festival 2018

Now in it’s 65th year, Perth Festival 2018 has an incredible line-up of music, film, literature and visual arts for you to enjoy. Don’t miss Abbe May & Clam Jam perform live in the stunning Chevron Gardens on Valentine’s Day. Plus, there are a wide range of shows with tickets still available, including thrilling circus act il n’est pas encore minuit and the heart-warming and entertaining production Barbershop Chronicles.

Swoon Valentine’s Day 2018

New age speed dating with a funk soul twist. If you’re not in a relationship, but you are looking for a fun event this Valentine’s Day, the guys at Bowled Over Dating and Late Night Valentine have got you covered. Swoon is a no-fuss good-vibes only event featuring old school soul-n-funk and aims to bring together like-minded people for a great night out.
