Just a short, and very scenic, one-hour drive from Perth and you’ll find yourself amidst the rolling green hills of Chittering Valley. A picturesque gateway to the wheatbelt and other rural regions of WA, Chittering is home to a handful of stunning wineries offering award-winning wines, ports and liqueurs. From live music out in the sunshine to cosy fireplaces during the cooler months, a trip out to one of these three wineries in Chittering is a must at any time of the year. In fact, we recommend making your own wine tour and going to all three!

Stringybark Winery and Restaurant

Nestled amongst the eucalyptus trees, Stringybark Winery and Restaurant features a classic rustic Australian restaurant owned by couple, Bruce and Mary Cussen who bought the property back in 1985. Now an established local favourite, Stringybark serves up a seasonal menu featuring contemporary Australian cuisine. Dishing up arancini, mussels, prawns and more, Stringybark is the perfect place for a family lunch or cosy dinner out in Chittering. Simply pair your meal with one of the winery’s award-winning wines, like their crisp, merlot-based 2019 rosé or their floral, medium-bodied 2018 Verdelho, which earnt them Wine of the Year at the 2018 Singapore Airlines Swan Valley Wine Show. For those with kids in tow, the restaurant also offers a children’s menu, while those with fur-babies are welcome to bring their pooches along for a meal.

Open Wed - Thu 12pm - 9.30pm; Fri - Sat 12pm - 10.30pm; Sun 9am - 9.30pm 2060 Chittering Road, Chittering 6084

Nesci Estate

Established in 1948 by Antonio and Carmelina Nesci, Nesci Estate is a third-generation winery packed with rustic countryside charm and, of course, a lot of good wine. Led by son, Kevin, the winery also produces ports and liqueurs that are ideally paired with one of Nesci Estate’s gourmet platters available to pre-order.

With over 60 acres of vines and a cattle farm within the estate, Kevin hopes to offer a paddock-to-plate dining experience in the future. For the time being, a gourmet cheese platter and a glass of your wine of choice overlooking the beautiful vineyards is a perfect way to spend a relaxed afternoon out in Chittering.

Open Fri 4pm - 8pm; Sat - Sun 12pm - 5pm Corner of Great Northern Highway and Wandena Road (North), Lower Chittering 6084

Alicia Estate

Founded by European couple, Jacob and Alicia, Alicia Estate is a winery and restaurant that honours Jacob’s Silesian heritage as well as Alicia’s extensive knowledge of French wines. Driven by a passion for winemaking, Alicia and Jacob spent 20 years searching for the perfect land for starting their vineyard before coming across the Julimar property that is now the winery and restaurant locals and tourists alike know today. In addition to wine, Jacob makes his own honey mead using a traditional Viking method and honey from beehives located within the estate. Dishing up hearty European meals like Vienna style schnitzel and schweinebraten (roast pork), a trip out to this stunning and homely estate located on the edge of the Julimar forest is well worth the drive.

Open Fri 10am - 3.30pm; Sat & Sun 10am to 4pm Lot 525 Nerramine Drive, Julimar 6567
